This cohune roof is now 5 years old
& looks good for 2-4 more.  I hope.

Today's Maya occasionally use tin
versus traditional palm thatch for roofs.
Depending on the species of palm,
a well made (thick and steep) thatch
roof can last from 5-20 years.

Cohune palm roofs last 5-10 years,
and bhotan palm roofs to 20 years.
In the Toledo District, cohune is dominant because of limited availability of bhotan.
